Shakespeare (Year 1)
During Literacy this term we have been reading a booked called Beegu. The children have written letters and postcards to her, they have completed story maps and written their own stories. They have also role played the story and hot seated the characters.
In maths we have been looking at place value and finding one more and one less, counting on along a number line, ordering numbers from smallest to largest and largest to smallest and using all of the skills to solve problems. This week we have moved on to addition and subtraction and are looking at partitioning numbers.
In science we have been looking at humans and other animals. We started by looking at humans and what each body part was called. We found out all about our senses and tasted and smelt different kinds of food . We have also looked at how animals are different and similar, how they can be grouped and what they eat and whether they are carnivores, omnivores or herbivores.
Our topic has been 'changes in me'. The children have looked at how they have changed since birth to now, completed a family tree, looked at old toy artefacts and new toys and made comparisons. They discussed how toys have changed over time. This week we have been looking at Victorian schools and making comparisons between schools nowadays and schools in the children's grandparents time.
