At Darenth we have sought to develop a curriculum that addresses, embraces and celebrates the diverse makeup of our school.
To enable this we have taken a development of skills approach. This gives greater scope for a broad and balanced learning experience, developing the whole person with a better understanding of their place and impact in society and world, encompassing British Values and Spiritual, Moral and Cultural Aspects of learning.
Delivery of the curriculum at Darenth will be through learning themes, ‘GATEWAYS’, that are current, relevant and responsive to the children’s interests It will seek to utilise facilities, resources and expertise both inside and outside of the classroom environment, forging and making links with the local community and other stakeholders. These opportunities will help to further inspire and challenge our children, preparing them for the future.
The guide and core of our curriculum is the aims and relevant content of the Statutory National Curriculum underpinned by our School Values of RESPECT, RESILIENCE, COMMUNITY, RESPONSIBILITY, ASPIRATION and CREATIVITY. We ensure that we are inclusive and encourage developmental learning.
As we believe the most important skill a child can be taught in school is how to learn, we teach progressive learning skills. Progression in skills
Each GATEWAY (learning theme) will published on the website for each year group. This should map out the subjects and skills to be covered, including opportunities for home learning.
